Towards Open Corpus Adaptive E-learning Systems on the Web

چکیده
Development of conceptual knowledge is an important part of education. In individualized instruction this aim can be facilitated by concept maps interconnected with learning materials. Traditional adaptive web-based elearning systems use a closed and static corpus, which is predefined in the design time. But there is plenty of learning resources publicly available on the Web, which provide a huge potential for learners. Obviously, it would be very useful to have an opportunity to choose for a particular context a suitable concept map that could dynamically access selected learning repositories and enable an intuitive navigation in both the concept and document layers, as well as between them. We have attempted to develop a solution that is based on the principles of open corpus adaptive educational hypermedia and at the same time can be part of a personal learning environment. The outcomes show that this may be a promising approach, but its usefulness is highly dependent on the usability and flexibility of the e-learning application.

Bridging Navigation, Search and Adaptation - Adaptive Hypermedia Models Evolution
Adaptive Hypermedia Systems (AHS) have long been concentrating on adaptive guidance of links between domain concepts. In this paper we first study parallels between navigation and linking in hypertext on the one hand and information searching or querying on the other hand. We show that to a large extent linking and searching can be modeled in the same way. Secondly we present a transition towar...
متن کاملRecent Adaptive E-Learning Contributions Towards A "Standard Ready" Architecture
Adaptation and personalization services of the information offered to the users in open e-learning environments are considered to be the turning point of recent research efforts. The “one-size-fits-all” approach has some important drawbacks, from the educational point of view. Adaptive Educational Hypermedia Systems in World Wide Web became a very active research field and the need of standardi...
متن کاملDynamic Contextual eLearning - Dynamic Content Discovery, Capture and Learning Object Generation from Open Corpus Sources
Adaptive Web Systems are seen as one of the main ways in which tailored learning experiences may be provided to individuals. However, such systems are restricted by the fact that they are reliant on content that has been specifically developed for each system. There are many sources of open corpus content available, the primary examples of which are the Worldwide Web and Open Corpus digital con...
متن کاملHybrid Adaptive Educational Hypermedia Recommender Accommodating User’s Learning Style and Web Page Features
Personalized recommenders have proved to be of use as a solution to reduce the information overload problem. Especially in Adaptive Hypermedia System, a recommender is the main module that delivers suitable learning objects to learners. Recommenders suffer from the cold-start and the sparsity problems. Furthermore, obtaining learner’s preferences is cumbersome. Most studies have only focused...
متن کاملThe Personal Reader: Personalizing and Enriching Learning Resources Using Semantic Web Technologies
Traditional adaptive hypermedia systems have focused on providing adaptation functionality on a closed corpus, while Web search interfaces have delivered non-personalized information to users. In this paper, we show how we integrate closed corpus adaptation and global context provision in a Personal Reader environment. The local context consists of individually optimized recommendations to lear...
